Rajshahi Krishi Unnayan Bank (RAKAB) started its activities on 15 March 1987 with the liabilities and assets of the branches of Bangladesh Krishi Bank located in the then Rajshahi Administrative Division (now Rajshahi and Rangpur Administrative Division) as per the Ordinance No. 58 of 1986 by His Excellency the President. The bank is operating with a total of 383 branches including Dhaka branch and local head office. There are 333 rural branches and 50 urban branches. Rakab is the only specialized state-owned bank in the country headquartered in Rajshahi outside Dhaka. The Bank has a Board of Directors of seven members to carry out the policy of formulating policies consistent with the policies announced by the Government. The authorized manpower of the bank is 6,180. Of these, 3,888 are officers and 1,454 are employees. Of the 3,884 employees currently employed, 2,533 are officers and 1,351 are employees (13-07-2021). Rakab has an authorized capital of Rs.1000 crore and a paid up capital of Rs.825 crore.
